Technical Information: Heater Core
Heater cores are available in aluminum or aluminum/plastic and copper/brass. Solder fatigue, corrosion and internal erosion cause heater core failures. Becoming the most common failure within an aluminum heater is electrolysis which deteriorates the alloy. Another cause of failure is clogging. Clogging occurs mainly because of debris circulating in the system. This debris usually comes from corrosion particles floating in the system. When servicing the cooling system ensure to properly flush all components and system before adding coolant.
